And for you ma'am I must stand and applaud
For me, this is somewhat of a feel good story. Thanks to fox news the link is here. For the lazy (or simply silly) the story is of an Oklahoma woman whose son was killed serving his country in Iraq. There apparently is a gentleman selling t-shirts online that say "Bush lied" on the front, with "They died" on the back and a list of soldiers names who had been killed. This woman felt that it was his right to his opinion and such BUT for him to be making a profit off of her son's likeness or name was not right. Instead of doing absolutely silly things like building a camp outside of the president's ranch (ahem.....) she did the intelligent thing and went to her state legislator (as well as state reps) so that they may introduce legislation to stop/ prevent future occurences of this. To this woman I must applaud your ability to keep and use a level head in dealing with the situation. I also must say, I am sorry for your loss. Your son was a young man with a tough and noble calling. There are still some of us in this country that appreciate his service and hope that it is never forgotten that he gave his life, so that others may live better ones..........
I would love to end the post there, but once again I must revisit one of my more popular topics. HOLY SHIT. When I posted last week the rumored number of homocides that Cincinnati was on pace for was around 85. Due to the "happenings" of last week, that number has jumped 10 to 95!!!!! To quote the article, "The city is on pace to break modern day records with 95 homicides by the year's end." If that doesn't scare the BEEEEEEJEZUS outta ya, I don't know what will. Another reason I chose to post on this is because I spoke to a gentleman while working last night who raised an interesting point. During the riots all of 6 years ago, some of the first places looted were pawn shops. The rumor is that there were something like 900 firearms "obtained" during the riots. The other rumor is that on the short order of less that 200 have been seized by police during their encounters. Considering it has been 5.5 years since those riots, I find that number slightly unnerving. Especially with the fact that the city seems to average 70+ murders a year...... That means there are still something like 700 firearms that could potentially be in the hands of people that the ATF would not legally allow to obtain. Ahhhhhhh screw it what do I know........ All I know is there is somewhat of a genocide going on in this city. Its getting ugly, its getting out of control, and we are headed for another riot here in the next few years. I wish I could make people understand that human life is priceless, but I don't think it will get across. God forbid that I am right, but what I see happening (possibly?) is that the cops are going to get fed up with homocides (the coroner has already publicly expressed his displeasure) and are going to end up face to face with one of these criminals and have to make a choice. It will be kill or be killed. The question is which way they will go. If they kill the criminal I could see it touching off another city-wide riot. If they choose not to kill, they will probably (and tragically) be killed. And that will fly under 50+% of the city's radar and that is terrible. As I said before, I truly hope I am wrong about that, but if things do not change, that is a path that is completely feasible....... Until next time folks.
